Reflecting on MarketHER: A Night of Empowerment and Insight

The MarketHER event by AMA Detroit, in partnership with Together Digital, truly set the stage for Women’s History Month 2024. It was more than just an event; it was a celebration of women making waves in the marketing world of the Detroit Metro Area. Picture this: an evening brimming with insightful conversations, networking, and, most importantly, empowerment—all in the company of local women-owned businesses. It felt like a big, warm, professional hug!

Moderated by the ever-insightful Melissa McClary Davis, the two sets of panelists were nothing short of inspiring (especially clad in capes, signifying how super they are individually). We dove into conversations about pivotal career moments that essentially boiled down to a couple of game-changing pieces of advice: Be curious, make those connections on your own, and don’t wait for opportunities to find you—chase them. And perhaps most importantly, let’s talk about doing things despite the fear. It’s about moving forward, even when your knees are shaking. The panelists shared some heartfelt advice they’d give their younger selves, which struck a chord with everyone there. It was all about staying true to who you are, making sure your ‘yes’ matters, and not just taking up space at the table but really making your voice heard. It’s especially resonant for women, and even more so for women of color, who’ve had to fight to be heard in professional settings.

This event beautifully tied into this year’s Women’s History Month theme: “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.” It was a vivid reminder of how pivotal it is for women to invest in themselves. Through mindset shifts, embracing our voices, and standing firm in our values, we’re not just advancing individually but paving the way for collective progress. AMA Detroit’s MarketHER wasn’t just a nod to the achievements of women in marketing; it was a call to action. It emphasized the undeniable truth that when women invest in themselves, embracing their strengths and voices, the impact can lead to transformative changes, not just within our communities but globally. It’s a testament to the power of women’s voices and leadership as essential drivers for a more equitable and thriving society.
